any one thinkin of changeing x-mass this year? Empty any one thinkin of changeing x-mass this year?

i am honestly. every year we go through the same crud. and the prices are INSANE.

i have never had this prob but i have heard storys of some useing credit cards for HUGE fancy x-masses only to spend the next year tryin to pay it off. seems insane to me. as we all know by the time you findly get it payed off the kids dont even have the gifts any more.

normaly we have done the dec 25 open your gifts day under the tree as santa comes on the 24th every year.

this is also hubbys birthday so we would have a birthday cake and a few of his gifts wraped for his birthday.....

how ever the last 3 years i have not bought not one gift for my kids or family as we just can NEVER aford it. they get gifts form grandma and such and normlay end up with 3-4 each. it works out fine and dandy but i always have the gult of it on my mind EVERY YEAR.

this year i dont see it being much differant. SOOOOOOOOOO i have made up my mind to change our triditions.

this year my mother wishes to come down for "yule" she dose not celabrait x-mass in her religen.....piff what ever

so i think our plan this year is to let grandmother come down for her "yule" on dec 22... do the hole bond fire and hot coco thing with mushy mellows.
have a bithday partyer for daddy and Jesus on the 25.
and then when the after x-mass sales start the next day on the 26 (also a payday) ill get a few gifts for the kids and we wil open them on the 27th from under the tree....

i think this will open the kids eyes to the true meaning of x-mass... you know Jesus, family, love, ect ect...

or so i hope any way.... now the real question is.... HOW DO WE explain how santa could not make it tell 2 days later? with out gult for it? lol

I actually know a lot of families that have changed Christmas. They told the little kids what Christmas really was, originally...Jesus's birthday. And because Santa was over shawdowing what it really is about, they asked Santa to come on New Year's eve instead. That way they could both have their days.

Me...I am one of the least commercial people there are. So buying hordes of prezzies just isn't going to happen in this house, no matter which day it is.

WOOT Thank ya that is a wonderful idea..... we will go to the mall and ask santa to please come on the 26or 27th so we can have Jesus birthday party on the 25!!!!!!!!!!!!

woot your BRILANT!! lol

i love haveing the santa and the tree and going out x-mass eve with fresh raindeer feed.... so they will stop at our house too. and my littlest is only 6 years old. so i want to keep that childhood memory going a few more years for her.

but its just geting to be way to expencave. to may birthdays and hallidays all stuffed in to the last few months of the year for this family.

and i do love the excitment on the kids faces to see all the gifts and open them all up x-mass morning. but this is something i havent seen in 3 full years. so i think its time to stop beating a dead horse and change the game plan. i mean 3 years its clear something needs to change .

i think ill make it more family activity things. stuff like little partys and bring back in the daily x-mass cookie... (i used to do that years ago every day was a new batch of x-mass cookie) one day gengerbread the next sugar next oo cornflake.

we havent made a gengerbread ark in YEARS... that could be brought back in to the hallidays too. hehe

THANK YA DEB good idea.

Yes, make Christmas day, a day of celebration, giving thanks, honoring traditions. Move Santa and all the commercialism he stands for, to his own day. New Year's eve works well, as it is another 'exciting' holiday for kids and then New Year's day is kind of a let down, as it was the same as the day before from last year. This way, New Year's day will have it's own explosion of excitement...piles of prezzies.

Well, being as how YOUR wife will wonder immensely on how you managed to catch crabs, and the fact that I am sure you love her and took your vows seriously ... till death do us part, maybe it should be a bobble for her. Wink

Awwwww, sorry about the smootched sandwich. I promise I didn't toot while I was sitting on your hat. Laughing

lol oooooo gosh a few years ago i guess. about the time they kids relized new years was the night to stay up and party alll night.

i feel we parants should get to stay up with out kids on new years. soooooooooo i told them they had to go to bed befor the "green glow" came at midnight.... and cover their HOLE BODYS under the blankies to protect them slefs for the glow..... see the glow HAS TO COME every year..... its a super bright light that starts on the other side of the world and covers the hole world up and changes it for the new year and changes the calnders days too. and if your not completly covered by the your blankies.. then the "green glow" would turn you green like a goblin......... and if to much of you was uncoverd or you where disobedeant and stayed up tryin to see the green glow with your eyes then you really would trun in to a goblin....... ( you do know that is what really happend to all them missing kids we see on tv right?)

sooooooo now every year i sneek in to the kids room on new years and any body parts i see hanging out from under their blankies i paint GREEN lol hehehe they wake up with green noses or toes or arms or what ever lol its GREAT FUN in the morning.

what a funny loving and clever mother!!! Very Happy

too funny... geek

one thing kids love is a family tradition - anything you can name it - they'll tell you what they like... ask them? Smile

(for example) my sons loved looking for easter eggs and they were little marshmallow ones (that's all they get then). i told them how many they will have each... they looked in their bedroom... lounge or dining nook. they reminded me every easter cup . tree3
