In Memory...
Something got into our fence last night and killed 8 of my 15 chickens. We have a lot of snow, but it is packed down hard, so we saw very few prints. The few we did see look like small dog prints. Kevin saw a coyote at the back of our property a week ago, and we probably have Fox in the area, but I have never seen them around. We didn't think the Coyote would come up this close to the house or this far into town. We also thought they were safe because of the fence they are in. What ever it was, it chased them around the yard and just killed them. Kevin said it ate 2 of them, but probably just killed all the others for sport. I felt sad when we lost the baby chicks, but I feel heartbroken now. I have had these birds for over 2 years. They are like Pets. I know they are just chickens and most people wouldn't understand, but I still feel terrible. They had such personalities and attitudes.
I will miss you Clue, Feathers, Roxie, Turkette, Sparkles, Blackie, Penny & Lacey.

Re: In Memory...
Oh man oh man oh man. How super heartwrenching! Yes, coyotes will come that close and closer for a meal. They would be next to our house and yipping and yelling as they went up the driveway to the coop. Thankfully we had everyone locked up tight every night and didn't have an issue. But, once I did come home from work to see feathers everywhere in the driveway and yard and parts of my ladies, and the neighbor's dog running home with one in it's mouth. I can't even put into words how I felt at that moment. The sheer devistation in my soul and the anger... I can only sympathise with you and hope that your losses do not hurt you for too long. I know that they are MUCH more than mere chickens. I'm so sorry!

Tree I have put their eggs into the bator so we are praying that some hatch they were in the fridge so that is a minus but I know others have done it and it can't hurt to try.
Re: In Memory...
Thanks Everyone! We have them locked up (actually barricaded in, so we can hardly get in!) Again, thank you!
