Update on those Ameraucanas

Post by Foghorn on September 11th 2010, 9:09 pm

You may remember I was wondering if I had any pullets in my Ameraucana chickens. Well, now I'm wondering if I have even one rooster. Some have started laying now, at first only an egg every other day, then two and now, just today, I collected six. I'm thinking that these are not pure bred Ameraucanas, because the eggs have all been tan to date. Maybe the colored blue/green shells come with maturity, but it doesn't matter. Colored eggs would have been novel, but for the moment I'm delighted that most of these birds are pullets. cheers

Ooooo, congrats! That's great news that all were ladies. Yes, the egg color they lay from the get go is the color for life. I have had everything from pink, lavender, tan, green, and blue from my ladies. It is genetics, so you will want to try and get a new batch next year from a different supplier. Wink

[b]Woo Hoo, we broke another record. Saturday, we got 10 eggs. Still no colored ones, other than tan or brown, but I'm trying to be impressed with numbers now.
