At 96 sqft...it all just depends on the size of the birds...And I do not remember what the suggested requirements per bird are...I know I can have a whole bunch of chicks in there...

For right now, it is only going to be used as a brooder, so I can keep the birds out of the weather..and out of the house..LMAO, but I am really planning on getting another one...I dont know if my roommates know this yet..but they will soon find out. Yes quail need to be completely enclosed, or they will not be captive any longer. I plan on building "boxes" to brood in out of plywood. I will probably have a couple of them in there, and I will build a chicken wire screen to go over the top. As for right now that is the plan. I am thinking that I am fixing to order 25 brown egg layers. But I am just patiently waiting on my federal return to get here so i can get an incubator...Salavating at the mere thought!!!

yepyep yes quail are very flighty. I learned if you have a brooder that the top opens, when you reach in there you end up chasing quails a lot lol. not fun! They are one bird that I say never has to learn how to fly, they seem to try to fly way before their fuzz is replaced with feathers. It sounds like you have good plans and a lot of fun ahead of you. We will be patiently waiting for you tax return with you have a cup

Ok guys..quick update...when I got home at 3 this afternoon..one had pipped...Went to dinner and came home and its out of its shell and the second one has pipped...I am hoping I can sleep through the chirping..but if not....at least I have chicks! The second one made it through the hatching process..Waiting for them to dry so I can get some pics and get them moved to the brooder!

Awww, one itty bitty. She is going to imprint on you. You are going to have to spend time with her so she doesn't 'cry' a lot. I had one like that..."Little Rich". I ended up taking an old sock and cutting it down to make a pocket out of it and tied it around me like a reverse backpack just so I could have a bit of piece and quiet in the house. It worked great.

LOL...Spoil her rotten...you know you want to! And yes, I know exactly what you mean when you say lots of noise. She needs to be with other chicks or you, or she will cry. So....with you it is since she is a one and only. If it drives you nuts, just make up a sock pocket and keep her with you...it works great and it saves sanity!!!!
