State and Local Gov't.....

Those of you who know me already know that my sister, brother-in-law, and their little girl live with me. My BIL had been employeed with Whirlpool corp. here in Ft. Smith. Well when Whirlpool decided that they are going to move the plant to Mexico, you guessed it...they started laying people off. Well, part of the severence package was a school aid. So they are paying for my BIL to go to school. My sister was already a full time college student when he was layed off. The program that they have my BIL in doesn't allow him to have any kind of employment. Well they went to the state to try and get some assistance. After jumping through all the rings of fire that they put before my sister and BIL, they were awarded with $10.00/ month in foodstamps and were told that they couldn't get daycare assistance because they were both full time college students. (Meanwhile there are hoards and hoards of hispanics in the area who are receiving aid and not doing anything.) So I called emailed and called my local reps and senators. Well I put my cell phone number on it and told them that I expected to hear from them. When my phone finally rang, it was my county district rep. I explained to her the situation that my sister was facing. And that they were trying to better themselves and their daughters life by trying to finish their degrees and this state wouldn't help them, but they would continously give handouts to those illegal immigrants who shouldn't have a right to any of our money. Mind you, my sister wasn't after foodstamps, they just wanted help with their daycare. Well, our rep asked for my sister's contact info. She said she was going to check with the state and get back with my sister. She called my sister within 15 minutes and they had full daycare assistance. They can help, it just depends on if they want to help or not. Make noise and be heard. Those people are elected....they answer to you.

Really Dustin??? Maybe I can get some extra assistance, besides unemployment to try and make all my ends meet.

Sorry to hear about you families struggles, but really happy to know it finally has a happy ending.

i like to bitch too. but tipicly i like to pick and chose my battles. some are not worth the drama.

i do understand the bulcrap your talkin about.. 4 yrs ago we had to go on the welfair systom for a full 10 months as we waited for my hubby to get a new job afte being layed off from his job of 14 yrs.

the crap you have to go though is ungodly. and honestly i can tell you from personal experance YOU CAN NOT GET A JOB on state aid regardless of all the calworks you do or classes you take or apps you put in.

you have points against you in every direction when you get that welfair check. and honestly it is easyer to live off welfair then on a paycheck. as they pay for your rent food bills ect ect ect. and send you 1000 bucks of cash on top of it. we had no prob with bills on the welfair at all. BUT BUT AND YES THERE IS A BUT to it.

they will NOT pay for any shcooling for better jobs.

my hubby was takein off all aid suport of all kinds cuz of his anxity (sp) he was lookin for a job. (hubby was raised the man works and the women cares for the family) but was unable medicly to put in 18 applocations a day as was expected. so i steped up and whent through the hoops of fire.

i was expected to put in 18 applaocations a day. and put in 10 hours of comunity service work a day. and my kids had to be in daycare. (even though daddy was home to care for them) all applocations had to be truned in to the welfair to work office 2x a week with copys of the applocation and a card or letter from the place of empolyment aplyed for as varfication of applocation.

all this and still run my home and fill out all their papers monthly as well as show up at a drop of a dime to every meeting they required.

im here to tell you YOU CANT DO IT ALL and if you dont your kids dont eat. or have a bed to sleep in.

think about it. you have to be at the work site for 10 hours.. then you have to go to 18 differant job locations for applocations. get the boss to give you a letter proveing you where there. EVERY DAY. 5 days a week.

now if you got a phone call for a interviwe. LMAO haha you had to get permistion to leave your job site from your calworker BEFOR you could tell the possable new boss yes ill be there for the appointment. HA HA RIGHT like they will wait for you to say yes or no. get real.

and then IF you do get a job..... your FIRED ON DAY 29 reason being is on day 30 they have to start payin for your medacal and inserances. WHY THE HELL FOR?

its easyer for the busnesses to simply fire you and higher the next scuker off the street in your place. this way they still get the moneys form the welfair office for higherin them AND dont have to make comitment to pay inserances.

Yep, that's the way to go..but sometimes that's the hardest way..I have a very large garden that I plant every year. And every year for the last 4 or 5 years it has been a real nightmare trying to keep something from happening to it..
The weather is always a problem..too wet or too dry..We didn't have a drop of rain from Spring til the end of summer.
But I'll never quit trying.

at least we can have some parsley - mint - silver beet - spring onions. Will plant more lettuce - silverbeet - tomato and onions. will eat those if i am lucky now growing few tomato plants - cucumbers - lettuce (half eaten when chooks got into the old chicken run one day) and pumpkin- water-melon and climbing beans struggling to grow (my first try here).

Lots of useless herbs growing heartily comfrey - lemon balm cat-mint providing shade :p

i talk about gardening but am useless most of the time - i just like to be outside

Hey dustin, glad ya could help out your family. Though the short term will be difficult, constantly advise your relatives to look to the long term. Nothing good can happen without long term commitment.
