Getting a little tired of the rain
It has rained and rained and then rained some more. When the rain first started, My yard had cracks 3/4" wide and God only knows how deep. ( Clay Soil)
Now the yards are running with water. I don't guess I have an actual level spot in my yard, if I do it is underwater. The poor chickens are all trying to sprout web feet and gills. I think I get an bit of an idea what living in a rain forest feels like. LOL

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
yeah it was sad i felt soo bad for them so i bouth them i knew they said bubble foot was hard to get rid of but never dreamed it was as hard as it was to heal and cure. them poor ducks where not used to people eather. the first 2 weeks they just stood in one small courner of the kitchen. never moveing. but i did hear them start to patter a round a bit late at night. lol it took many lanceing and bandage changes. lots of meds and yogerts to get them feets fixed up. and i could not let my other birds in around them intell they where fully healed. thank the lord i had a 2 yr old little girl who had grown out of all her bootys. lmao.
but once they did findly get used to us you should have seen the sliping and a slideing there was going on in my kitchen lmao....
how is that rain going for ya ?

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
The rains have finally given us a break. I turned a couple pens of chickens loose to free range. They found higher and drier places to wait out the rains. I haven't seen any sign of Bumble foot. Thank the Lord.
I figured the rain had softened the soil enough I could pull up spent garden plants and get ready for replanting for Fall Garden. Low and behold, the rains have brought the plants back and I think we will make more squash and tomatoes. The Okra is loaded with blooms and the Anaheim Peppers are just covered. I pulled some of the big weeds and quite a bit of grass that had tried to take over. I think I will broadcast turnip, collard, Broccoli and Cauliflower seeds throughout the garden and let them grow where they will.

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
It seems like it is either drought or floods. I would enjoy the happy middle. I really can't complain. This has been a good year and so was last year. We had our dry spells and our wet spells, but all in all it was good weather.

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
Those huge cracks in the lawn from last drought has spoilt the back lawn - thought all the rains would have loosened soil back into cracks but no it didn't.
What should i have to do next time? I've never had that experience of having huge cracks for more than six months - even after the heavy rains.
I feel for ya Dee but be thankful you have the piped water we relied on our precious water tanks and thank goodness it didn't run out due to our being careful with use of water here. Even with two more people living with us then at the time.
Maybe in hundred years time something would be invented so that we will have the rains when we need it and have the sunshine when we need it. Better still a bit of rain every night would be nice ... leaving days full of sunshine ha ha ha

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
I feel yer pain. We either have ground so cracked we fall in when we walk across it or we end up with this. We ended up with several inches in just a few hours. We had to use a boat to get home one evening since the road in flooded. This is our lower horse pasture. Luckily we put the house on the top edge of the valley.

Re: Getting a little tired of the rain
We had a quick downpour night before last. That was the first rain we have had in several weeks. We needed the rain, but not all the pollins and gunk that blew in with it. We are all snotty and have itchy eyes. All three of my grandkids are prone to allergies, they all have colds and are all cutting teeth. The oldest is getting her 6 yr molars, her 10 month old brother is getting some to go with his front four. Their cousin is 4 months and trying to cut his first tooth. I sure wouldn't mind a slow gentle rain that would knock down the stuff in the air.
