I am off to Riga for a few days
Wednesday morning me and my friend are off to visit the largest city in the baltic countries, Riga in Latvia. I have been there only ones for a short visit but now we get to stay for 5 days and 4 nights . We are renting an apartment in the Old Town. I know I will enjoy myself but I will miss my msn mornings . I tried to get msn on my mobile but it didn't work.
Be good while I am away !!
See you monday morning (sunday evening in us)!

BACK FROM RIGA
We had a good time in Riga
At arrival we were met by a taxi driver sent to the airport by the wonderful lady that organized the apartment for us. As I am still recovering from the gout the driver was God sent - he carried my luggage to the apartment that was in an old renovated house in Old Town - second floor . The flat was really nice - a bedroom, where my friend Anna-Kaisa slept and a living room where we moved the other bed for me. There was a small open kitchen with everything we needed and a bathroom with shower and washing machine etc. Everything was clean and nice.
Here is a pic of "our" street, M. Smilsu Iela.
If you want to know more about our trip I will post later when I find the time

These are buildings by the square near our apartment. There are open air restaurants there in the summer. The evenings can be a bit chilly so they provide blankets!!!
These pics are taken wit night settings because it was getting dark - thats why they are ot sharp but I did promise to show a pic of me... I'm the fatter one

Re: I am off to Riga for a few days
Ok ok
Here is a pic of the riverside and the boat that we took to get to Jurmala, that is a seaside town, a real "summer town".
Here is a map that shows the boat trip (pink) and the train trip back (brown). The boat trip took 2½ hours and costed 10 euros each and the train took 31 minutes and costed 1,15 euros for two persons!
Here is pics I took from the boat. All the river banks are clean plain sand!
From the little port we walked down the main street:
down to the beach, first seen through the trees:
then the actual beach wiew:
On the way back to the center we saw many cool houses, heres it 2 of them:
These trains runs every 30 minutes between Jurmala and Riga:
Happy now Treena ?

Re: I am off to Riga for a few days
Many towns in northern Europe are like that because we have really old buildings and as we have space there are towns that are not built upwards. That makes them cosy

Tom remarked the bright colours reflects in their native clothes - is that right?
i love all those jazzy and arty colours on these houses yes it would be very pleasant to walk around there too.
Love that map as it shows clearly where you went by train and the boat... neat pics of landscapes - shops - buildings and even the train looked colourful too!
