more pics for you chook people

Post by ferdismom on 5/19/2008, 7:39 pm

while I was trying my incubator out with the 5 chook eggs I also bought 40 guinea eggs from a friend. yes it was a bit crowded in there and I had a few under the turner that I was turning by hand lol. Well all 40 were fertile and 32 hatched out. 7 were backwards for some reason and I lost 2 of these because I had to help them out. then a few more died later so I ended up with 25. I think that is a good hatch rate. I sold 4 so I have 21 and 2 more will be bought when they are older. I ended up with one white one. the rest will be pied and pearl I think.

I'm now going to purchase 40 more. I seem to have alot of people that are interesting in purchasing them including my in-laws if I hatch more. I wish my eggs were as in demand as the guineas are lol.

The little white one is a stinker. I have found him running around my bathroom floor more times than I can count. he's the only one that doesn't stay put. And believe me he is very hard to catch. and his favorite hiding place? well that would be behind the toilet of course. I'm sure me and my Dh look funny each on a side of the toilet with are faces pressed against it and the floor trying to grab the little stinker. then we both shout out gleefully " I got him" just to realize he ran up my arm and is now behind me looking at us with our hands locked together. It's so good my Dh new what he was getting into before we got married lol. They are going out in the outdoor pen tomorrow, so there little stinker he can't get out of that one.

I wanted to update these little monsters too. I think they are the most fun to raise. I am now down to 13 and they are starting to lose the face fuzz and to sound like guineas. They are so funny they all run as one and the poor chickens try to keep up lol. They sound like teenagers going through the voice change and they think they know it all lol.

sorry the pics aren't the greatest, but they never stand still or let you close enough.

Guinea keets are some of the cutest little balls of fluff. lol
I have guineas running all around here. I have thinned them down several times, but each spring they increase again. Very Happy
