About 9 years ago I was without chickens. I was offered some mixed breeds from a man who wanted to downsize. I said sure, bring them on. Believe it or not, I still have two of those original hens and two others lived until the past 6 months.

Anywho, one of these old hens is a little black banty. She isn't OEB, but I am not sure what she is or if she is a mixed breed. Doesn't matter, back to the story.

I have a separated brooder house that is a lean-to on the South side of my chicken ...

Hi all. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend...I need a little help.

I've got 6 almost baby chicks..They're just all mixed breeds. I got them at the feed store...They're almost 7 weeks old. I've had them on chick starter feed since I got them, and they've been staying in my garage. For the past few days I've been putting them in a cage a few hours a day, and putting it in the chicken pen, so they can get used to each other.

My question/s is. How long before I can let them mix ...

I stuck some eggs from them and a few others in the incubator to check for hatchability before listing hatching eggs. Doing that is like an alcoholic taking one drink.
How do you house your poultry?

Before I started keeping seperate pure breeds, I had a couple of pens and a small shed that served as housing. Now I use tractors for most of my poultry. I have I think 8 tractors now. I have built them all and each one is different from the others. I was worried about wintering in the tractors, but I had no problems last Winter. When the weather got bad, I grouped the tractors together to help protect each other, then tarped them good. I had me a little shanty ...

can you guess which one is from my chickens? lol makes so mad that I have 3 hens old enough to lay and all I get is one egg a day. I had to break down and do the horror of all horrors and buy eggs from a store . Look at the color difference!! If they free ranged the chooks that have to lay for production, the eggs might look better.
