Anna is POOF gone

Post by Deb on 11/7/2008, 10:26 pm

Her computer has died. She was using a graphics program and it froze up and then went to blue screen. We have tried every way we can think of to get it to boot up and go into safe mode to make the real fixes...but nope, no such luck.

Sooooooooooo, looks like I am boss for the moment... muaha

Anyways...if anyone has any ideas on how to help Anna out, post them here and I will go over them on our daily phone call. If you have a spare computer, let me know and I will get you contact info to send it to her, ifn that is something your wishing to do.

Anna says to take care, don't worry about her, and behave so I don't come chasin you down! muaha

Yah, that been a thought, but then she looses all her work, pics, etc. that she currently has saved, including programs such as PSP, etc.

Any other ideas?

A boot disk would just get her booted up so she could see if she could find the problem. She wouldn't lose anything unless she can't find it and has to reformat.

Do you know if she has a windows XP disk? she could try putting that in and boot up,

I am asking her right now. She said she would have to look and see if she could find it, but she really doesn't know. It's probably hidden in a box in her closet...and there are a lot of boxes there...lol.

I will get back to you on this.

crap sounds like what i just had happen to my comp.. sigh...... and yes i LOST EVERY THING..... have her see about her hard drive... i had to replace mine. they are about 30 bucks now days i guess. not real sure as dans buddy had one already extra at his house he installed for me..... BUT it dont mean its all gone for ever. she can take the hard drive over to her ooommmm best buy or cerit city.... they can still some how pull the info off it and store it on disks for her..... so all though the comp is wiped clean... her files and stuff will be saved on disks to just re laod as she finds needs for them...... just a thought........ only other thing i have had to replace cuz of crashes was a mother board and power suply but they set fire.... and i never had a "blue screen" just black and would keep shuting its self off over and over for that.

i would have lost everything in my laptop but michael my deaf friend managed to rescue my documents (including my books) and the photos from that crash. And he stored them into a CD to be loaded into my new present desktop last year (?).

like me to ask how did he do this? Smile

Whomever Anna takes her computer to, to fix it, they will know how to save the documents for her and put them on again Tree. I think she is leaning towards a new one, but that might not be cost effective.

Well, here is the update you have all been waiting for....

I called my IT Tech man here, to ask him if he had a refurbished hard drive for Anna that I could buy. He didn't, but also said to run a certain test on her hard drive to see if that was the problem. He gave me the steps to do and I then called Anna. Her computer wouldn't even let us access the area he wanted us to peek into.

I gave Anna my tech person's name and phone number. I called my tech guy to tell him that Anna would be phoning him shortly and what ever charges there were for him helping her via the phone, I would cover them...to send me the bill.

Anyways, about 30 minutes later, Anna calls me back. She talked to Mr. Techy and he walked her through some things on the phone. It turns out it isn't her hard drive at all, but some controller that is inside the tower. To fix/replace the controller, would be about $20 less than just buying a whole new tower. My guy looked up the tower that he felt would suit Anna perfectly while they were on the phone, to cover all her graphic's needs.

Anna called Dell this morning and ordered the new tower. She should be back here next week guys!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!

Hey that's great news...controller inside the tower?? Hmmm, at that price it must be the processor..

I hope she gets a good one..I don't like Dell. I'm an HP fan. I don't like Vista either but that's all you can get now.

Thanks for the update.

I agree Ed. Dell just doesn't thrill me. I have watched more friends have issues with them. I have always owned HP's and have never had one problem. The only time I get a new one is when I WANT to upgrade. But....hopefully this next one will be a real winner for Anna.

The thing I hate about the Dell's is their customer service....In the house we have a compaq, toshiba, HP, and an Acer. The Acer is my favorite! Absolutely love it. But on topic, I am certainly glad to hear that Anna is going to be back up and running...I can't wait to see pictures of her birthday gifts.

Ok, so Anna decided to do a few 'upgrades'...lol. $700 later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, she has a tower on order and will be shipped to her by the 28th. She was able (by spending extra of course) to have windows xp put on instead.

NoEnd...you have a private message from (me) Anna...go take a peek please.

And another, Wow!..I've got a message from Deb..lol Twisted Evil

I'll see if I can figure out where it is and how to get it..
